Smoking at Heathrow Airport: Everything You Need to Know
Designated Smoking Areas
Smoking is permitted in designated areas outside the terminal building. These areas are located before and after the security check. However, it is important to note that once you have passed through security control, you will not be able to smoke or vape anywhere on the premises. This is due to the British government's ban on smoking in enclosed public spaces.
Before Security Check
There are designated smoking areas outside each terminal before the security check. These areas are equipped with ashtrays and are clearly marked.
After Security Check
There are no designated smoking areas inside any of the Heathrow terminals. However, there are some smoking areas located outside the terminal buildings.
Heathrow Terminal 3 Smoking Area
When Terminal 3 was refurbished between 1987 and 1990, it included a "Smoking Cage" in the transit area. However, this cage was removed in 2019. As a result, there are no longer any smoking areas inside Heathrow Terminal 3. The only designated smoking area for Terminal 3 is located outside the entrance/exit.
