Early Life and Career
Darius Kinnard Garland was born on January 26, 2000, in Gary, Indiana. He began playing basketball at an early age and quickly showed promise as a talented point guard. Garland attended Brentwood Academy in Brentwood, Tennessee, where he led his team to a state championship in his senior year.
College Career
After graduating high school, Garland committed to play college basketball at Vanderbilt University. In his freshman season, he averaged 12.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game. He was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team and helped Vanderbilt reach the NCAA Tournament. Garland declared for the NBA Draft after his freshman season.
NBA Career
Garland was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the fifth overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. He made his NBA debut in October 2019 and quickly became a key contributor for the Cavaliers. In his rookie season, he averaged 12.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 6.1 assists per game. Garland has continued to improve in his subsequent seasons and is now one of the best young point guards in the NBA.
